Illegal firecracker explosion kills 9
AT least nine people were killed and two others were injured in a firecracker workshop explosion in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Wednesday, local government officials said yesterday.
The blast took place at a rural household at Shendu Village of Tianjiazhuang Town, Fengxiang County, about 5:30pm, according to a statement from the county's publicity department.
Rescuers pulled six injured people from debris about 6:30pm and took them to hospital. Four of them had died by 3am yesterday.
Later the same day, five more bodies had been retrieved at the accident site.
Two people passing by at the time of the explosion were hurt but their injuries were not life threatening.
A preliminary investigation found that explosives had ignited during the illegal production of firecrackers.
Police are searching for the organizers.
