Importance of EU ties is stressed
CHINA highly valued the relationship with the European Union, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said yesterday, adding that frictions, though inevitable, were not the mainstream of the relationship.
"The China-EU relationship has moved in a positive direction on the whole and achieved much success in the pragmatic cooperation in many fields," he said.
This year is the 35th of China-EU relations.
Yang, at a press conference on the sidelines of the annual parliament session, said the EU was China's largest trade partner, with volume exceeding US$360 billion last year, and there were nearly 200,000 Chinese students studying in European countries.
Many EU leaders would visit Shanghai this year to attend the 2010 World Expo, while China was planning several visits to Europe by its leaders, he said.
