Industrial Chemicals Found In Shrimp
INDUSTRIAL chemicals have been detected in frozen shelled shrimp in Shandong Province as sellers made shrimp absorb more water to boost their weight after they are frozen, a newspaper reported yesterday.
A vender surnamed Tian told Shandong Business Daily that some wholesalers soaked shrimp in sodium hydroxide or formaldehyde solution, which is harmful to human health.
Ice can make up 25 percent of the weight of shrimp.
