Infectious diseases kill 1,121 in China in January
A TOTAL of 1,121 people died of infectious diseases on the Chinese mainland in January, the National Health and Family Planning Commission said Tuesday.
A total of 482,019 cases were reported last month, according to the commission.
More than 246,000 cases were classified as Class B infectious diseases under China's Law on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, resulting in 1,108 deaths. Hepatitis, tuberculosis, syphilis, dysentery and gonorrhoea accounted for 95 percent of the cases in this category.
Class C diseases were responsible for 235,280 cases, including 13deaths. Foot and mouth disease, infectious diarrhea, and influenza were the most prevalent in this category, accounting for 92 percent of cases.
