Infertile wife stabs infant, mistress after demanding custody of baby

AN infertile wife stabbed her husband’s mistress and the woman’s infant daughter in a jealous rage yesterday morning in southern city of Guangzhou when the mistress wouldn’t hand the baby over to her, New Express reported today
Police said the wife surnamed, Cai, 31, is in custody.
The 45-day old baby was no longer in a life-threatening condition, but remained in the intensive care unit for scissor wounds in her chest, the report said. Her mother, surnamed Ma, was severely wounded on her wrist and may have nerve damage since she couldn’t control her ring finger, the newspaper reported.
The husband, surnamed Zhang, said he had been married to Cai for 10 years. Medical tests showed Cai was not fertile but even though he wanted a child, he refused to divorce her, the report said.
Cai then suggested her husband find a fertile woman, the report said.
Zhang met Ma online last year and they started living together. Instead of getting angry, Cai falsely claimed to be Zhang’s cousin and took care of Ma, the report said.
Since Ma got pregnant last fall, Cai started asking Zhang to pass the child to her, the newspaper said.
“She looked mad, saying if I didn’t give the child to her she would kill it,” Zhang said. When he and Ma moved to another village, Cai was angered, the report said.
On Wednesday, Cai found their new home and spent a night with them. After Zhang left home for work the next morning, the report said, Cai beat Ma and stabbed her and her baby with scissors, shouting “That was my husband. Don’t you know?”
Zhang returned home and took the baby and Ma to the hospital, then called police.
Local lawyer Zhu Yongping, who is not connected to the case, said it appears that since Cai had known about Zhang’s extramarital affair and cooperated with the arrangement, she would not be qualified to accuse him of bigamy.
