Injured thief sues driver for giving chase

A THIEF vowed to continue filing lawsuits to claim compensation from a driver who chased after him while fleeing the scene of a crime, before his motorbike crashed and injured his spleen and bowels.

The 19-year old thief surnamed Shao said the first court sentence "hurt his feelings" by refusing compensation, as it discriminated against thieves by denying his lawful rights to life and health, reported Yangtze Evening Post today.

Wuxi Intermediate People's Court in eastern China's Jiangsu Province has accepted the case and will start the trial soon, according to the report.

A district court in Wuxi denied his case last November, saying there was no evidence that driver Zhan's car ever contacted Shao's motorbike. Shao, who told the court he was stealing e-bikes with two others before they all fled on the same motorbike, was seeking compensation of 154,277 yuan (US$22,600) from Zhan.

The court also noted that Shao and his accomplices were running a red light and crashed into another car. But Shao said he would focus on getting Zhan.
