Innocent farmer wants justice from court

A MAN in southern China who had served eight years in prison for a murder he didn't commit has been released after the real killer turned himself in.
Wang Zifa, a farmer in Hechi City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, received the notice from the Hechi Intermediate People's Court that his case was withdrawn due to "lack of evidence" last Friday.
Wang said he was not satisfied that the case was merely dismissed and did not even prove his innocence. He was demanding the court to announce that he was not guilty.
The withdrawal also battered Wang's hope of suing the police in Donglan County, who forced him to confess by overnight beating when Wang was held in custody, reported today's Western China Metropolis Daily.
Wang received a death penalty for killing Wu Zongmou, a local villager, who was stabbed to death while having supper with Wang in September 2001.
Wang won a reprieve by appealing to a higher court in later 2005.
The turning point came in 2007, when the actual culprit Tan Hanbao, who was put in prison for robbery, confessed to killing Wu and hurting Wang six years ago before fleeing.
