Insiders question cookware tests

INDUSTRY insiders have accused well-known domestic cookware maker Supor of dodging problems with its products that authorities in a northeast China province said contained excessive levels of manganese.

Heilongjiang's provincial capital of Harbin has banned Supor's problem products.

In response to the ban, Supor has claimed its products meet the country's standards, citing results of tests over the hardness, dents and welding work, the 21 Century Business Herald reported yesterday.

However, industry insiders have cast doubt over test results provided by Supor, saying they didn't address the composition but only the strength of the goods.

Tests in Harbin showed excessive levels of manganese in some Supor products.

This can lead to rusting and contamination of food being cooked.

The inspection carried out by Harbin industrial and commercial authorities listed products included milk pans, soup pots and steamers.
