Inspectors to root out safety risks at work
A NATIONWIDE inspection into workplace safety had been launched in a bid to close loopholes and prevent major accidents, the country’s work safety authorities said yesterday.
The State Council’s work safety committee said the inspection, from July to October, will cover all regions, all industries, and all types of enterprises, as well as crowded areas.
Safety conditions at workplaces have been generally stable this year, it said, but a number of major accidents had indicated a lack of safety awareness, poor regulation, and failure to eliminate hazards.
The inspection will severely punish those who violate safety laws while eliminating potential hazards and promoting safety measures, it said.
Enterprises with irregularities or those considered unsafe will be shut down, while those failing to take adequate safety precautions will be held accountable.
In the first five months of 2017, the number of accidents fell 25 percent year on year to around 19,000, according to the State Administration of Work Safety. These left some 13,000 people dead, down 16.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
