Investigation links jabs to illnesses
VACCINATION has possibly led to several people falling ill in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province.
An assessment by medical experts has preliminarily linked the illnesses to vaccination, Wang Ming, dean of Guangzhou Disease Control & Prevention Center, told today's Yangcheng Evening News.
Wang declined to elaborate on the illnesses and vaccines involved, saying further investigation is under way.
He stressed the center has strictly followed vaccination safety procedures.
The latest victim is a 10-year-old boy in Baiyun District who lost the use of his left leg after a swine flu vaccination on Monday, according to today's Nanfang Metropolis Daily.
Guangzhou's vaccination authority is closely monitoring his health to find out the cause.
It is too early to say if the vaccine had triggered the illness, because normally adverse reactions occur within two hours and affect the whole body rather than just one limb, an official with Guangzhou Disease Control & Prevention Center told Nanfang Metropolis Daily.
Besides, none of the hundreds of other pupils who were also vaccinated showed any adverse reaction, he added.
