Iodine-131 'No Threat'
THE levels of radioactive iodine-131 detected in the air above China's northeastern Heilongjiang Province on Saturday were too low to pose a threat to the public, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said yesterday.
No protective measures were needed, the center said in a statement.
China's local health care authorities have designated health care organizations to conduct radioactive contamination tests and related medical procedures, it said.
China's National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee said the levels of iodine-131 detected in Heilongjiang were under one-hundred-thousandth of the average annual exposure level and not considered harmful.
