Island City Begins Rationing Its Water
AN island city in east China's Zhejiang Province began rationing water yesterday due to the continuing drought.
Residents in Zhoushan will only be able to use running water for five hours a day, as 20 of the city's 29 reservoirs are unable to supply water due to low water levels.
Rainfall in Zhoushan was just 150 millimeters from January to May - the lowest in the city's history.
On the island of Xiazhi, where Zhoushan is located, water is supplied by desalinizing saltwater or is imported from inland regions.
