Jackpot lottery winner delays collecting cash

THE winner of China's largest individual lottery prize has not yet claimed the money - 369.9 million yuan (US$54.2 million) - he won last Thursday.
The mystery buyer from Anyang City in central China's Henan Province has left town with his wife and child, Chengdu Business News reported yesterday.
He bought 44 identical tickets issued by the China Welfare Lottery at a cost of 176 yuan, the provincial welfare lottery center said.
Chen Guixia, the vendor who sold the winning tickets, said she couldn't clearly remember the winner's face. Reporters and visitors have crowded the stall as lottery buyers hope to repeat the winner's luck.
A retired worker from Anyang Iron and Steel Group told the newspaper that he had seen the buyer, identifying him as a group employee.
Another company retiree said the winner had worked for the group's sixth section, which was on Gangsan Road and not far away from the lottery vendor. The winner was about 30 and not very tall, according to the source.
He abandoned his home and job and ran away with his wife and child immediately after hearing the news, the source told the newspaper.
The previous lottery record was held by a player in Jiayuguan in northwestern China's Gansu Province who won 113.8 million yuan in November 2007.
The Henan lottery center has vowed to protect the winner's privacy and will protect the family's security.
