Jail for organizers of Internet sex shows

FIVE men who operated one of China's biggest nude webcam sites have been jailed for up to six years for organizing live sex shows online.

One of the convicted, 28-year old Zheng Li, was once an owner of Internet music Website who brought out two star singers. He shifted to the nude webcam business in 2008 after his original music business stopped making money.

More than 30 million Internet users registered on the Website for live sex shows. Zheng's team earned more than 19 million yuan from the new business, a district court in central China's Hubei Province heard.

Zheng was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 500,000 yuan.

Website co-founder Dai Zeyan was jailed for five and a half years and Liu Junsong was jailed for five years. They were fined 400,000 yuan and 350,000 respectively, Chutian Golden Newspaper reported today.

He Jia and Zhang Rong were in charge of recruiting young hostesses for the Website. He was sentenced to five years in jail and fined 10,000 yuan. Zhang was jailed for two and half years and fined 10,000 yuan.

The Internet pornography ring caught police attention last April when its page views surged to 730 million. Hubei police raided Zheng's company this January in Chongqing, busting dozens of scantily clad young women. The police said most of the hostesses were university students.

Zheng's Website earned money from its registered members, The more the clients paid, the less the hostesses wore in front of the webcam, the report said.
