Jail for teacher who molested girls

A PRIMARY school teacher has been jailed for 13 years after being convicted of molesting 19 girl pupils in north China's Hebei Province.

Zhaoxian County People's Court handed down the verdict to the teacher surnamed Qin yesterday, today's Hebei Youth Daily reported. Qin didn't appeal.

The court said Qin, 53, a grade-3 teacher with Xijiangcun School in Zhaoxian, molested 19 girls in his class aged from eight to 11 in the past two years.

The secret was not exposed until this March, when a pupil complained to her parents that she felt discomfort. The unnamed girl told her parents Qin had given her 1 yuan (14.8 US cents) and asked her to keep the attacks a secret.

The parents and school officials called police.
