Jail upheld for gangland's twin terrors
A COURT in Chongqing municipality has upheld a 17-year jail sentence on twin brothers, the youngest gang bosses netted in a crackdown on criminal rings in the southwestern municipality.
Chongqing Higher People's Court revoked the appeal of Zhang Bo and Zhang Tao today, reported China News Service.
The Zhang brothers, 23, smiled and greeted reporters when leaving the courtroom after being convicted last October of leading a gang running gambling dens and extortion.
Twenty-two defendants stood trial with the Zhang brothers and received sentences ranging from 13 years to six months for involvement with the gang.
Another nine were sentenced to up to nine years, and one received probation. The youngest defendant was 20.
The brothers' gang was known as the "street lords" in Wanzhou District in the city before they were busted in police raids in July.
