Jailed training guru makes appeal

A FORMER president of a large training company with branches across the country and overseas has appealed against his four-year sentence for raping an employee, saying the woman was a liar.

Song Shanmu, founder and former president of Sunmoon Lifelong Education Group based in Guangdong Province, filed an appeal yesterday through his lawyer Gan Yongming, claiming the 22-year-old woman, identified as Luo Yun, might have been hired by his rivals to stigmatize him, Guangzhou Daily reported today.

Song was given a four-year sentence and a 4,205.87 yuan (US$637) fine by the Luohu District People's Court on December 24 last year.

In the first-stance verdict, the court said Song lured Luo to his villa in a remote area in Luohu District and raped her there on May 3 last year. Luo said Song also took her nude photos and threatened to blackmail her after the rape. But police didn't find any photos in Song's computer.

Police DNA test confirmed the semen stain on Luo's pants belonged to Song, which led to his arrest.
