Jiangsu city boss probed over luxury villa

A TOP city chief in the eastern province of Jiangsu is under investigation for building a luxury villa covering 2,000 square meters.

Sun Chan, deputy director of politics and law commission of Lianyungang city, built the eye-catching villa at the foot of Huaguoshan (mountain of flowers and fruit), the birthplace of China's legendary Monkey King, according to today's Modern Express.

Sun paid seven families 40,000 yuan (US$5,857) in compensation for land use and property deeds, using an imported stainless steel door, indoor fireplace and thick wooden footpath in the spacious yard, said Chen Yaoxuan, head of Zhuma Village.

However, the building violates government regulations because Sun and his family are no longer permanent residents in the village and they didn't get approval from the planning bureau, a local land official surnamed Yang said in the report.

The discipline committee of Lianyungang City has taken all relevant documents away and is "holding talks" with Sun. The case was first exposed online.
