Jiashan seeks to lure innovative talents

THE Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association and the government of Jiashan County of Zhejiang Province launched an innovation and start-up competition in Shanghai over the weekend.

The competition is focused on talents and start-up programs in electronic information and health care.

Winners will not only win prizes between 10,000 yuan and 150,000 yuan, they will also get up to 6 million yuan of subsidies if they register their companies in Jiashan, double of last year's subsidies.

Application can be submitted by July 5 and more details is available at the government website (http://www.jiashan.gov.cn).

The annual event is the second of its kind to promote the county's strategy to better connecting with Shanghai and serve the latter's efforts in building a global center for scientific and technological innovation.

Jiashan, located at the center of the Yangtze River Delta and 20 minutes away from Shanghai by high-speed rail, has been approved by the state council as China's only county-level demonstration base for scientific development and one of its aims is to deepen its connection with Shanghai.

"Jiashan has been eager to attract spillover talents from Shanghai and we will serve them with favorable policies and convenient service," said Gu Xinyu, a member of the standing committee of the county's Party committee.

According to Gu, the government had just introduced 32 new policies in March to attract talents, including at least 10 million yuan for each top talent and a maximum of 100 million yuan for each program led by top talents.
