Judge held in dismembered body case

A SENIOR judge in east China's Zhejiang Province has been detained for manslaughter after allegedly killing a man during a quarrel and dismembering his body.

Pan Huashan, former vice presiding judge with the No.1 Court with Zhejiang Higher People's Court, was detained by Hangzhou police after a six-month investigation, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The investigation was launched after dismembered body parts were found on January 26 in Hangzhou's Ling'an area.

On July 17, police discovered the victim was a 67-year-old man surnamed Qian who had been reported missing in Huzhou City's Nanxun District.

Police caught Pan 10 days later. Pan allegedly confessed to police he had committed the murder, the report said.

Pan said he met Qian on January 8 and invited him home for lunch. During the lunch, they had a quarrel and it resulted in murder.
