Kaixin.com owner told to pay damages to its rival
A Chinese Internet company, Oak Pacific Interactive, was ordered to pay 400,000 yuan (US$60,051) to a business rival for copying the name of the latter's social networking website known as the Chinese Facebook.
Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court also ordered the company and its subsidiary Qianxiang Wangjing Co, which runs Kaixin.com, to stop using "Kaixin Web" -- the same name as its rival's Kaixin001.com -- on charges of unfair competition.
Founded in March 2008, Kaixin001.com has attracted more than 90 million Chinese users with its featured webgames and marketing tools.
Oak Pacific Interactive opened a similar website with the same Chinese name in Octorber 2008, which the court said "caused confusion among Netizens."
