Kidnap suspects arrested, 2.9m yuan ransom retrieved
THREE suspects have been captured in eastern Zhejiang Province for kidnapping a woman for a 15-million-yuan ransom and getting 3 million yuan eventually, Jinghua Times reported today.
Wenzhou City police said they had retrieved about 2.9 million yuan from the kidnappers who abducted the victim surnamed Sun on the night of March 29 when the woman in her 40s was about to get into her car in a residential complex.
Sun's husband received a call from the kidnappers the next afternoon demanding a ransom of 15 million yuan. Wenzhou police soon identified the trio as Yang Lishen, Wang Xiufeng and Yang Shunzhong, all villagers from Gaocheng in north China's Hebei Province. They had committed violent crimes in several places.
After negotiations, the kidnappers agreed to reduce the ransom to 3 million yuan. On April 4, Sun's family brought the money to a hotel in Henan Province and Sun was released that night.
Police tracked down the three suspects in their hometown on April 12 and brought them back to Wenzhou yesterday afternoon. Details of their crimes are still under investigation.
