Kidnapped Henan official discovered dead
THE kidnapped official of a county construction bureau in central China's Henan Province was found dead on Wednesday, a day after he was abducted, police said yesterday.
The Biyang County Construction Bureau head, surnamed Su, was kidnapped by two men on Tuesday night from his residential compound near his office, a county public security bureau spokesman said. A witness saw Su being crammed into a silver grey van, the spokesman said.
The suspects contacted Su's family on Wednesday morning, demanding 500,000 yuan (US$71,400) for his release, he said.
Police seized a suspect, Lu Jibing, on Tuesday at 5:50pm. He told police Su was being held in an abandoned house in a remote corner of Yingqiao Town in Xiangcheng County in neighboring Xuchang City.
Su was found dead when police arrived there on Wednesday night.
The spokesman said the cause of his death was still unknown.
Police were hunting for the other suspect, Qu Gang.
