Kidnapper accused of killing 13

A KIDNAPPER on the top of China's most-wanted list has been charged with 10 counts of rape, robbery and manslaughter resulting in 13 deaths, including three policemen.

Prosecutors of Foshan People's Procuratorate in south China's Guangdong Province yesterday filed charges against Cheng Ruilong, today's Guangzhou Daily reported.

Cheng, 36, a native of Guangdong's Lianzhou City, was jailed for two years in 1993 for burglary.

In 1995, he allegedly kidnapped a businessman in Foshan, demanding a ransom of 300,000 yuan (US$43,947), the newspaper said.

The newspaper didn't say whether he had harmed the man or got the ransom but said he allegedly started a nationwide crime spree in the provinces of Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hunan and Zhejiang as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality.

He allegedly killed 13 people, injured 13 others and gained 288,610 yuan, the newspaper said.
