Kidnappers caught in tavern after hostage makes them drunk

THREE men were detained in a tavern in Henan Province for kidnapping and holding for ransom a businessman who was driving a BMW in Xi'an, capital city of Shaanxi Province, on August 13, People.com.cn reported today.

The victim pretended to be befriending his kidnappers at the table and managed to make two of them heavily drunk to make time for his rescue.

The businessman, surnamed Hu, was kidnapped by three men when he was preparing to drive home in the wee hours after having something at a coffee shop near Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a famous tourist attraction in Xi'an, police said.

On the way to Nanyang city, Hu said he chatted and drank alcohol with them and two of the men became drunk. The men said they'd like to make friends with Hu and cut the ransom by half to 600,000 yuan, Hu said.

A friend of Hu called police after receiving a ransom demand for 100,000 yuan at about 7am that day. They threatened to kill Hu. Working with police, he sent them 50,000 yuan to secure Hu's life and police detained the three robbers in a tavern in Nanyang at about 5pm that day, police said.
