Kidney trafficking case

A MAN on trial for trafficking human organs yesterday denied all charges in Beijing's Chaoyang District People's Court and argued that he saved lives, thus causing no harm to society.

He Linxuan, 25, along with three other men were charged with conducting illegal trade and making more than 1 million yuan (US$151,768) in profit from the business, prosecutors said.

The court heard He provided kidneys to three patients in Chaoyang Hospital in 2008 and earned more than 370,000 yuan.

The other defendants - Ye Weihua, Zhen Dingliang and Si Chenqiao, - each sold one kidney for 50,000 yuan.

In 2009, He conspired with the three and provided kidneys to several more patients, earning 818,000 yuan, the court was told.

He told the court he simply introduced the patients to kidney donors.

But in a statement to the police, He admitted each patient paid him around 100,000 yuan, the court was told. No verdict was announced.
