Killer nabbed in stabbing death of taxi passenger

THE man who stabbed a taxi passenger to death in a dispute in downtown Hangzhou, capital of eastern Zhejiang Province was captured yesterday in northeast China.

The man, whose identity was not revealed, will be brought back to Hangzhou today, police said.

The fatal attack occurred on Saturday night when the taxi carrying the victim, Chen Hao, and his wife stopped near the crossroad of Yan'an Road and Qingchun Road in downtown Hangzhou.

Police said Chen, 30 and weighing more than 100 kilograms, was waiting for fare changes in the taxi when a stranger, impatient to get in the same taxi, pushed Chen to hurry up.

This irritated Chen and he tried to discipline the stranger but that man stabbed him in the chest twice with a knife.

Police said Chen died in the hospital later despite rescue efforts and the attacker escaped.

Chen was an editor of a Dutch publishing company in Shanghai. He went to Hangzhou every weekend to see his wife who works as a nurse, police said.
