Killer wants to donate organs

A man who murdered 13 people has told an appeal court that he regretted everything he did and he would donate all his organs as redemption.

Cheng Ruilong, 37, was sentenced to death in February for killings and robberies that began in 1996 and covered six provinces.

He told Foshan Intermediate People's Court that he was appealing his death sentence not for leniency, but to clear up some details so that law could live up to its name of absolute justice, today's Guangzhou Daily reported.

Cheng said he was only acting out of instinct and trying to avoid arrest. But prosecutors called him "greedy, selfish, and vicious" as he had killed every witness to his robberies.

Cheng was arrested after a set of fingerprints issued by China's Ministry of Public Security were linked to a prisoner in Jiangxi. Cheng was serving a seven-year prison term under the name Zhou Quan.

Cheng said he knew any one of his crimes was enough to put him to death and he apologized to the families of his victims.

An unnamed relative of Jiang Minghua, a police officer in Foshan murdered by Cheng, said: "The only thing I want is that Cheng get due punishment as soon as possible."
