Kindergarten boss charged with embezzlement
A kindergarten principal stood trial in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province on charges of embezzlement and fraud worth nearly 1 million yuan (US$158,000), the Guangzhou Daily reported today.
The 50-year-old woman boss surnamed Mo allegedly embezzled more than 900,000 yuan from children's boarding money and cheated parents of 55,000 yuan as insurance fees, the paper said.
Prosecutors said Mo, a Hong Kong citizen, opened the Chuangyi Kindergarten in Zhuhai in April 2006. Between April 2007 and March 2011, Mo forged the boarding cost of the students with fake invoices and embezzled more than 900,000 yuan.
Huang Meimei, a former accountant of the kindergarten, said the actual monthly expense on food was only 8,040 yuan, one-seventh of the forged account.
Mo also charged each student 30 yuan as insurance fees in case of the children have an injury in the school.
Prosecutors said Mo used only 4,500 yuan to buy insurance and embezzled the rest of money.
Mo denied the accusations in the court and said she invested the money in her kindergarten to realize her education dream but the kindergarten was still running in deficit.
Mo was arrested after some teachers in the kindergarten protested over delayed payment and exposed Mo's embezzlement, the newspaper reported.
