Kindergarten boss gobbles up million yuan of food money
A kindergarten headmaster was accused of forging the food expense account and siphoning more than 1 million yuan off the plates of children, according to an online post that appeared on several well-known Chinese websites.
The post made by several kindergarten employees said that the children were fed with watery soy milk, two pork ribs the size of the small finger, a slice of apple or cucumber as a meal in their privately-owned kindergarten in Lianyungang, a city in eastern Jiangsu Province.
However, the headmaster's account book showed the students were served quality milk and sufficient meat dishes, the Yangtze Evening Post reported today.
The employees showed the forged account book to journalists, saying the kindergarten's breakfasts cost less than 1,000 yuan (US$158.2) per month, but in the account book, it was marked as much as 40,000 yuan a month.
Some parents also confirmed that their children wanted to eat as soon as they walked out of the school.
The city's education bureau has begun a probe into the Lianyungang Commerce Kindergarten but the unnamed headmaster refused to respond to the allegations.
