Kindergarten headmaster detained after girl left unattended for hours in car
A kindergarten headmaster was detained following the death of a three-year-old girl who was left unattended in his locked car for more than nine hours, Beijing News reported last night.
An initial investigation found the headmaster surnamed Liu, who worked for a community kindergarten in Yishui County in Shandong Province, drove his private car and picked up the girl from her home on Saturday morning, the newspaper said.
On arrival at kindergarten he forgot the girl was with him and locked the car. More than nine hours later teachers found the girl in the vehicle. Her skin was peeling from sunburn and feces were found in the back seat, the report said.
The girl’s relatives said it could reach up to 80 degrees Celsius in the car and the girl smelt like she had been “well steamed.”
The family added that they paid Liu 300 yuan (US$48.33) every month to take her to and from school since they live about 10 kilometers from the kindergarten and there are no school buses in their area.
The report said police are still investigating the case.
