Kneeling woman's grievance heard finally

AUTHORITIES in a county in central Henan Province finally gave ear to a petitioner who broke into a government meeting, kneeling down in front of seated officials begging for help but was left ignored.

Wang Yi, a Huaiyang County spokesman, said the county's Party secretary and other officials yesterday listened to the complaint of Zhang Yanhui, who suddenly appeared in their meeting room on Monday, China News Service reported today.

An online post showing the middle-aged woman crying in front of a line of expressionless officials has set off waves of accusations against bureaucratic indifference. The woman was pulled away from the meeting room by security guards.

Wang said the Party secretary, who was not named, inquired about her grievance after the meeting was over and gathered some officials to discuss about her problem.

The woman petitioner confirmed what Wang said and added that she was waiting for the result. She said her case involved the malpractice in law enforcement but refused to give more details.
