Knifeman holds Frenchwoman hostage
A MAN who took an 82-year-old French tourist hostage at knifepoint in Beijing said he did it to draw attention to his complaints of corruption at his former employer.
Beijing's Chongwen District People's Procuratorate Office has filed a charge against the man surnamed Dou, today's Legal Daily reported.
To rouse attention, he kidnapped an 82-year-old Frenchwoman at knifepoint who passed him in Beijing's Qianmen Street. Witnesses told the newspaper he cornered the woman, but two of her companions snatched the knife away.
The victim suffered cuts to her neck, forehead and fingers, the report said.
Dou, from Jiangxi Province, has been in Beijing for four years trying to complain about alleged corruption by his former employer. Police said he failed to get satisfactory response and has developed depression.
