Kunshan resident wins 256m yuan in Sports Lottery

A lottery ticket buyer in Kunshan, a city bordering Shanghai in Jiangsu Province, hit the biggest-ever jackpot in China Sports Lottery yesterday with a windfall of 256 million yuan (US$40.24 million).

The buyer spent 100 yuan on 50 Super Lotto tickets, choosing the same number combination. The lucky winner bought the tickets from a kiosk at Beimen Road around 7pm yesterday and hit the jackpot two and a half hours later.

The person has to claim the jackpot before August 26.

The previous record in China Sports Lottery prize money was held by a resident in Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, who scooped 248 million yuan last August.
