Kwok Ka-ming again bun-scrambling king

A FULL house of 1,200 spectators saw Kwok Ka-ming win the annual bun-scrambling competition at the Cheung Chau Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch in Hong Kong on the weekend.

Kwok, a resident of the Cheung Chau Island who was also the bun-scrambling king in 2007, won the event with 939 points.

Runner-up was Ho Sin-fai and third was Chung Yuk-chuen. Wong Ka-yan, who with 603 marks, beat the other two female contestants to become the female champion.

Nine men and three women finalists climbed the 14-meter-tall bun tower and had three minutes to snatch as many buns as they could for the highest scores.

Divided from the bottom to the top into three zones, the tower was studded with buns representing one, three and nine marks with special color stamps on the bottoms. The contestant with the highest total was the champion.

Bun scrambling has been a traditional activity of the Cheung Chau Bun Festival.
