Land official turns himself in for bribery
AUTHORITIES of discipline in Anhui Province said yesterday that they had started probing into the allegation of a local land official who admitted his guilt of bribing three senior officials and tweeted his surrender online.
Zhu Chenglin, an official with the Disciplinary Commission of Bozhou City, said they would verify the allegation made by Zhou Wenbin, who claimed to work in the Land and Resources Bureau of Lixin County under Bozhou City.
Zhou caught much public attention after he posted his movement and feelings on Twitter-like weibo.com. He showed up at the building of the disciplinary commission at 12am yesterday.
"To surrender myself is killing me! I didn't tell anybody, not even my family. They are sure to stop me and even threaten me with their own life," Zhou said in his microblog on weibo.com. Within two days, Zhou gained nearly 1,000 followers and his post was forwarded hundreds of times.
Zhou was transferred to his current position in last July. Before this, he worked on another job in the land and resources bureau, Beijing News reported today.
After handing in his materials, Zhou left the disciplinary commission and was not available via cell phone.
