Land resources director commits suicide after shooting injures mayor, Party chief in Sichuan

A senior land resources official committed suicide after reportedly shooting at high-ranking government officials during a meeting this morning in Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province.
The city’s publicity department said the shooting occurred at 10:50am at the Panzhihua Exhibition and Convention Center when the city’s government officials were having a meeting, according to Sichuan Daily newspaper.
Chen Zhongshu, the director of Panzhihua’s land resources bureau, shot at officials who attended the meeting. The city’s Party chief Zhang Yan and Mayor Li Jianqin were injured, it was reported.
The two were immediately sent to hospital and are now in stable condition, it was reported.
Chen fled the scene but was later found dead at the first floor of the center. Police confirmed that Chen committed suicide, it was reported.
A further investigation is still under way.
