Landslide in Wenchuan County kills 15, injures 9 more

LOCAL government of Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, said today that the Saturday massive landslide has killed 15 people and injured nine others by yesterday.

Wenchuan, which falls under jurisdiction of Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba, southwest China's Sichuan Province, was ravaged by rain-triggered floods and landslides Saturday.

At least 31 people were reported missing after the landslide.

More than 50,000 residents and tourists were forced to evacuate in Aba.

The county government of Wenchuan has arranged temporary shelter for the flood-affected residents.

Wenchuan County was the epicenter of the 8.0-magnitude earthquake that jolted Sichuan and other neighboring provinces in west China in May 2008. The quake left about 87,000 people dead or missing.
