Lanzhou sets car curbs
Authorities in the northwestern city of Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, introduced a two-month traffic restriction in its urban center effective today, amid the latest efforts to curb severe winter pollution.
Cars will be banned from roads from 7am to 8pm on alternate days up to January 10 depending on whether their number plates end in odd or even numbers, Lanzhou city government said yesterday.
Police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, emergency repair vehicles and taxis are not subject to the ban, it said.
The city unveiled measures in October ordering the odd-even traffic ban if local air quality index exceeds 100 while the PM2.5 concentration passes 75 micrograms per cubic meter for three consecutive days.
