Laowais volunteer to keep Anhui's capital clean

FOREIGN urban management volunteers took to the streets on July 14 to help maintain the city appearance in Hefei, capital city of east China's Anhui Province, Xinhua News Agency reported today.

The three overseas students from Afghanistan and Africa were appointed as urban management volunteers of Xinghuacun sub district in Hefei on July 14.

Their exotic appearance, while wearing urban management officer uniforms, made them the focus of every one's attention.

They helped deter illegal street-side vendors and illegal cabs in a friendly manner and most people supported them in their work.

One of the volunteers told Xinhua that he had been in Hefei for more than one year. When he heard that Hefei was building a National Civilized City, he became inspired to help in the process.

"Foreign friends can also care about urban management in China," the head of Xinghuacun Sub district said, adding that the city would invite people from different backgrounds to become urban management volunteers in the following months.
