Last of 4 hitmen captured for brutal attack on 'science cop'

POLICE in central Hunan Province have caught the last of the four suspects who allegedly were hired by a medical school professor to attack a science-fraud debunker for revenge.

Kang Yongjun, 42, was nabbed at his home in Xiangtan County last Friday. Other three hitmen, Dai Jianxiang, Long Guangxing and Xu Lichun, were caught in earlier this month, reported the local Xiaoxiang Morning Herald today.

The gang, aged from 31 to 45, were allegedly paid 100,000 yuan (US$14,800) by Xiao Chuanguo, who hated the "science cop" Fang Zhouzi and his ally Fang Xuanchang, to attack them with steel rods and hammers in June and August.

Xiao, the 54-year-old professor of urology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, has been arrested by Beijing police. He said he was "regretful" for the assault and didn't mean to kill them, just to hurt them to "vent his anger."

Xiao said he originally planned to teach Fang Zhouzi a lesson and publicize the whole thing in a popular micro-blog on Sina.com.

To this, Fang Zhouzi said Xiao was still "lying." He pointed out that Xiao intended to kill him as could be seen in his selection of violent tools.
