Laundry shops under scrutiny after media report

TWO high-end laundry shops in Beijing reportedly treated clothes in unprofessional ways and played tricks to cover up damages, according to an investigative reporter of China Business Network.

The CBN reporter spent about 20 days working as a clerk in the outlets of Fornet and Pride, two well-known brands, and found expensive clothes and fabrics requiring dry-clean were all washed, and the workshops were dirty and messy with workers walking on clothes.

Shanghai Daily found both brands have franchises in Shanghai. Fornet has more than 60 franchised shops.

Fornet's local manager who refused to be identified said the Beijing headquarters is now making an investigation after the CBN report and their Shanghai shops allow clients to check their workshops as a company policy.

The manager said they make undercover checks routinely and have not found any problems as exposed by the Beijing journalist. He said Fornet will make an announcement later today in response to the media report.
