Lawmaker praises premier's hard work
A CHINESE lawmaker, deeply moved by Premier Wen Jiabao's hardworking style, has suggested the national legislature award him the title of "National Model Worker," the highest honor for Chinese citizens.
Fan Yi, president of the Foreign Languages School of Ningbo University in Zhejiang Province, said he clearly remembered Wen's trip to see workers in factories, sea ports, construction sites and households in Ningbo on May 1 last year.
"The premier is too busy!" said Fan, citing Wen's public appearances since the beginning of this year.
He went to the quake-hit areas in southwestern Sichuan Province to spend the Chinese Lunar New Year with local people on January 24 and 25, and got to Zurich for his European tour two days later.
Shortly after his return, Wen went to cities such as Tianjin to learn about its economic performance. He also invited 13 citizens to his office in Zhongnanhai, the central leadership compound, to hear their opinions of the government.
Last Saturday, the premier went online to chat with Netizens for more than two hours during which he was bombarded by tens of thousands of questions, ranging from the widening income gap and corruption to how many hours he slept each day.
Fan said "if all the country's civil servants could act as Wen, we would be able to overcome any difficulty in boosting economic development no matter how serious the financial crisis."
Fan, deputy chief of the China Zhi Gong Party Zhejiang Provincial Committee, criticized officials who sought personal gain and would always "pass the buck."
