Lawmakers propose to ban shark's fin soup from official banquets
CHINA is expected to ban shark's fin at government-hosted banquets in three years, the State Council said, China Network Television reported yesterday.
The Government Offices Administration of the State Council revealed the decision in a reply to a proposal made by more than 30 National People's Congress deputies.
The legislators called for a ban on shark's fin consumption at official banquets.
An official with the Government Offices Administration told CNTV that they will work out the details of a regulation that will come into effect within three years.
The move is aimed at protecting the endangered predator of the sea, lowering the government expenditure on receptions and restricting government spending on luxury items.
