Lawsuit over notorious identity theft closes

THE victim whose identity had been stolen by a classmate to get into university received 45,000 yuan (US$6,622.6)in compensation from the court today.

Luo Caixia sued her classmate Wang Jiajun's family, her former high school in Shaoyang, Guizhou Province, and Guizhou Normal University that enrolled the fake Luo Caixia, demanding 141,990 yuan in compensation.

But today, she agreed to settle for 45,000 yuan after the case had waited in court for 15 months. None of Wang's relatives appeared at the court because
Wang's father is now in jail, her mother deranged, and herself missing.

Luo told People's Daily online that she knew people had called her cruel but she was forced to make a lawsuit as the Wangs pushed her too far.

Other defendants convinced Luo at the court today that they had not role in the cheating scheme. Luo then dropped her demand for compensation from them.
