Leaders' Deep Sympathy
CHINA stands willing to offer earthquake-struck Japan further help, Premier Wen Jiabao said yesterday, expressing his deep sympathy to the country and its people.
And Chinese President Hu Jintao also offered condolences to Japanese Emperor Akihito over the disaster that hit northeast Japan on Friday.
Hu expressed the hope that Japanese people could overcome difficulties and rebuild their homes as soon as possible.
At a press conference in Beijing, Wen said: "China is also a country that is prone to earthquake disasters and we fully empathise with how the Japanese people feel now."
"When the massive Wenchuan earthquake struck, the Japanese government sent a rescue team to China and also offered supplies," said Wen, referring to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake.
"A Chinese rescue team arrived in Japan yesterday and we have provided relief supplies to Japan. We will continue to provide further necessary aid to Japan in accordance with their needs," he said.
