Lhasa passenger train stranded in tunnel for 1 hour

A passenger train broke down inside a tunnel because of mechanical problems en route to Chongqing city about 4am today after leaving Lhasa, the local railway authority said.

Fume was reported to be filling up the carriages during the breakdown and some passengers suffered difficult breathing, the Beijing-based Legal Mirror quoted some passengers who posted photos of the scene online.

The report said the riders complained they had been trapped inside the tunnel for about one hour.

The railway operator said the problem was fixed and the train started running again at 6:43am.

The railway authority said none was injured in the accident and the rail traffic was not disturbed.
