Li meets with Chancellor Merkel in Berlin
CHINESE Premier Li Keqiang met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin yesterday amid a looming trade spat with the European Union.
Li has criticized the EU for pursuing anti-dumping cases against Chinese manufacturers. Germany has indicated it hopes for a negotiated solution rather than having the EU impose anti-dumping duties.
Merkel and Li met with students from both countries before holding closed-door talks. Later, they were set to have a dinner at a government guest house.
Today, Li will meet other officials and business leaders and he is also due to meet Merkel's challenger in September's elections, Social Democrats' candidate Peer Steinbrueck.
