Light quake hits Suzhou, no damage reported

SUZHOU experienced a magnitude-1.9 earthquake around 6pm yesterday with most parts of the city reportedly feeling the tremor. No casualties or damage were reported.

The earthquake's focus depth was eight kilometers, according to the Jiangsu Provincial Seismic Network. Since it was a shallow earthquake, it was noticed by many Suzhou citizens.

"I heard a big bang while I was having dinner," said a local resident surnamed Gui on his weibo. "I thought someone upstairs had broken something on the floor."

Sun Min, an official with Suzhou Earthquake Bureau, said that yesterday's earthquake will not affect Metro Line 1 and the city's high-rise buildings, as all of these constructions are earthquake-proof.

Sun added that according to currently observed information, no destructive earthquakes are expected in Suzhou or neighboring regions in the next few days, and yesterday's earthquake didn't lead to panic among local citizens.
