Lin's fame fetches woman millions of yuan

AS Jeremy Lin became a NBA sensation overnight, a sports utility company in Wuxi, eastern Jiangsu Province is sitting back to enjoy big rewards for its clairvoyance.

Before the Chinese-American basketball player registered the "Linsanity" as a US trademark last Monday, Yu Minjie, owner of the Wuxi sports utility company, had already registered two Chinese trademarks using Lin's name last August, the Modern Express reported today.

Yu paid only 4,460 yuan (US$708) to register "Jeremy Lin Shuhao" trademarks for her sports goods and the Forbes magazine believed the trademarks are now worth around 100 million yuan, the paper said.

"I was impressed by his talent when I was watching an NBA game on TV in July 2010. I sensed that he would become a NBA superstar someday," Yu said. She registered the trademarks for sportswear, accessories, balls and toys.

If the Harvard point guard wants to use his Chinese name as trademarks, he has to get Yu's approval because she owns the trademarks for 10 years until August 2021, the paper said.
